WINCHESTER, Va.--The Hood College women's tennis team (1-4) opened its spring slate with a trip to Shenandoah University Saturday evening, but came up short, falling 7-2 to the Hornets (2-0).

Emily Maerz was a double-winner for the Blazers, capturing her No. 1 singles match over Shannon Allin, 6-0, 6-2, and teaming with Olivia Hosch to upend Allin and Molly Barb, 8-5 at first doubles.

Barb narrowly defeated Hosch at second singles in a closely-contested 7-5, 6-4 affair.

The Blazers will be idle until March 19 when they travel to Shepherd University for a 3:30 p.m. nonconference match.
