FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's tennis team (4-11, 1-5 Commonwealth) bested the Lycoming College Warriors (0-10, 0-6 Commonwealth) by a margin of 6-3 Saturday afternoon for the program's first Commonwealth Conference triumph at the Hood Tennis Courts.
Hood went up 2-1 after the doubles competition and won four singles matches en route to the triumph.
Emily Maerz and Olivia Hosch etched their names in the record books atop the leader board for most doubles wins in a season. The tandem downed Shannon Sheridan and Kathy Jacobs for their 12th win of the season, surpassing the previous record of 11 from the 2001-02 season.
Sandra Dziadas and Nalla Tejera recorded an 8-4 win over Ellen Phillips and Miranda Giraldo to up their record together to 2-1.
Maerz, Hosch, Dziadas and Mabie Tun were all winners in singles play as well. Maerz swept past Sheridan, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1. She finishes with an overall mark of 13-4 on the season and 4-2 versus league foes. Maerz ends her Hood career in third place all-time on the program's career singles wins list (45) and is the all-time leader in wins as a No. 1 player (35).
Hosch ends the season on a high note as she rallied to defeat Jacobs in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, for her second win of the year. Dziadas earned the win at No. 3 after her opponent, Phillips, retired in the first set (Dziadas led 5-2). She ends the season at 4-13 in singles play. Tun outlasted Kendall Connors, 9-7, in a pro set at No. 5 to up her singles record to 5-7.
Hood ends the 2012-13 season with an overall record of 4-11, 1-5 in Commonwealth play.
