Box Score ANNVILLE, Pa. - A Lebanon Valley team receiving votes in the national polls proved too much for Hood in an 80-51 loss in Commonwealth Conference action.
It was just the second time all season the Blazers allowed more than 60 points in a game defensively.
The Dutchmen jumped out to an early 17-9 lead, but Hood went on a 10-4 spurt and trailed just 21-19 after a free throw by Alexis Andrukat (Smithsburg, Md. / Smithsburg) with 7:14 on the first half clock. Lebanon Valley pulled away over the remainder of the period and took a 42-29 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Blazers pulled within 11 after Andrukat fed Rachel Kessler (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) for a jumper to make it 46-35 with 13:09 left. LVC repeated its pattern from the first half and slowly extended the lead over the rest of the period.
Hood forced the Lebanon Valley into 28 turnovers and held a 23-18 advantage in points off turnovers. The Dutchmen grabbed 59 rebounds and had a 19-3 edge in second chance points to fuel their offense.
Verkia Smith (Waldorf, Md. / North Point) scored 10 points in her first start of the year to lead Hood. Rachel Wiley (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) added nine points and tied Alexis Briscoe (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) for the team-high with seven rebounds. Andrukat's five steals were the most for a Blazer this season.
Bridget Rothert and Lexie Lantz scored 15 apiece to lead LVC (6-1, 1-1 Commonwealth). Lauren Derby had 13 rebounds, while Kaitlyn Van Tash added 11.
Hood, 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the Commonwealth Conference, looks to get back in the win column when Lycoming visits BB&T Arena on December 6.
