FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's tennis team was swept in its season opener by visiting St. Mary's (Md.).
In doubles action, both of Hood's duos won a game before bowing to the visitors. Olivia Hosch (Newport, R.I. / Cushing Academy) and Sandra Dziadas (Long Pond, Pa. / Pocono Mountain West) lost 8-1 at first doubles to Shannon Ramsey and Emily Stumpfig. At second doubles, Molly Masterson (Indiana, Pa. / Indiana) and Meaghan Donahue (Walkersville, Md. / Walkersville) were defeated by Melissa Barall and Lauren Rost by the same score.
Hosch was the only Blazer to win a game in singles action.
Injuries left Hood shorthanded, competing with just four players, as the Seahawks won third doubles and fifth and sixth singles via walkover.
Hood will look to get healthy and rebound against Catholic on September 20.
