Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College dropped a Commonwealth Conference matchup against Lebanon Valley, 69-63.
Rachel Wiley (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) led the Blazers with 15 points and eight rebounds. Rachel Kessler (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) added 10 points and six rebounds. Taylor McGaughey (New Market, Md. / Oakdale) contributed eight points and was 2-of-3 from 3-point range. Verkia Smith (Waldorf, Md. / North Point) had three assists and two steals, and Allie Appleby (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright) had three steals.
A 15-4 run gave Hood a 33-29 lead with only three minutes on the clock. Lebanon Valley had four free throws to pull ahead with 1:25 left, but two four shots from Alexis Briscoe (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) tied the score at 36-36 at the half.
A jump shot from Appleby gave the Blazers a ten-point lead with 11:15 to go in the second half. The Dutchmen responded with an 11-point run to take the lead, 51-50, with 8:58 remaining. A 3-point field goal from Smith pulled the Blazers back into the lead, 55-55 with 6:19 left in the half.
Back-to-back 3-pointers started a final 10-3 run for Lebanon Valley, who notched the win, 69-63.
Hood outshot the Dutchmen with a season-high 45 percent (23-of-51) to 34 percent (21-of-61) for the Dutchmen. The Blazers outrebounded LVC 43-36.
Bridget Rothert had 20 points for the Dutchmen and was 9-of-10 from the foul line. Taylor Umbrell contributed a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and added six steals. Peyton Carper had 12 points and three steals.
Hood travels to Lycoming on January 31 for a conference game at 1 p.m.
