Blazers Fall to Lycoming in Conference Game

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College dropped a Commonwealth Conference game to Lycoming, 19-8.

Derian Le (Frederick, Md. / Gov. Thomas Johnson) and Jade Locklear (Baltimore, Md. / Chesapeake) each scored two goals for the Blazers. Locklear also added five draw controls and caused one turnover. Taylor McGaughey (New Market, Md. / Oakdale) and Christina Murphy (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) notched one assist apiece. Lauren Couch (Crownsville, Md. / Old Mill) had three ground balls and made 14 saves in goal.

Locklear started the scoring two minutes into the first half with a free position goal for an early 1-0 lead. The Warriors responded with a four-goal run in just over a minute to take control, 4-1 with 24:24 on the clock. Locklear found the back of the net a minute later to pull within two, 4-2.

Lycoming added two more goals to make it 6-2, but Le's goal off an assist from Murphy cut the lead to three, 6-3 with 17:23 to go. The Warriors had another two-goal stretch followed by an 8-meter goal from Le for a 8-4 lead halfway through the period. Lycoming had a seven-goal run for a 15-4 advantage at halftime.

The Warriors had three goals during the opening half of the second period to make it 18-4 with 13:06 remaining. Murphy notched a goal with 10:14 on the clock (18-5). McGaughey scored a free position goal at 7:55, and then made a pass to Anne Lessard (Natick, Mass. / Natick) 30 seconds later for another goal, 18-7. Lycoming had one more goal in the final four minutes. Braithwaite added a final Blazer goal with 30 seconds on the clock, but the Warriors claimed the win, 19-8.

Jordan Lazarich led Lycoming with five goals, one assist, nine draw controls and three ground balls. Meghenn Jackson had five points off three goals and two assists and added five draw controls. Jenna Hudson also notched three goals. Nicole Gerling started in goal and made six saves. Casey Martindale came in for the second half and stopped two shots.

The Blazers travel to Arcadia for a conference game on April 18.
