WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Hood College women's tennis team swept a non-conference match at Trinity Washington, 9-0.

The Blazers started the afternoon with three doubles wins. Aubrey Fetters (Frostburg, Md. / Bishop Walsh) and Sophie Smith (Freeport, Maine / Freeport) dropped just one game at second doubles, defeating Gwynne Arias and Patrice Sykes, 8-1. The first doubles duo of Michelle Shedd (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) and Olivia Hosch (Newport, R.I. / Cushing Academy) dispatched Yashoder Premysler and Gabrielle Clary 8-3. At third doubles, Meaghan Donahue (Walkersville, Md. / Walkersville) and Diane Akakpo (Waldorf, Md. / McDonough) won by the same score against Ashley Archibald and Shari King.

Hosch, at first singles, and Shedd, at second singles, each dropped just two total games on their way to victory. Hosch was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Premysler, while Shedd took out Clary 6-0, 6-2.

Smith and Donahue won by identical 6-3, 6-0 scores. Smith defeated King at fourth singles, while Donahue was a winner at fifth singles against Sykes. 

Fetters played in the day's most exciting match, defeating Arias at third singles, 6-2, 4-6, 14-12.

Akakpo was credited with her first collegiate win, besting Archibald 6-4, 6-3.

Hood hosts Harford on April 23.
