ANNVILLE, Pa. - Hood College's trip to the postseason came to a halt with a 5-0 loss to top seeded Lebanon Valley in the Commonwealth Conference Semifinals.
Michelle Shedd (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) and Aubrey Fetters (Frostburg, Md. / Bishop Walsh) played the closest doubles match, falling 8-4 to Marla Scacchitti and Brittany Dierwechter. The first doubles duo of Olivia Hosch (Newport, R.I. / Cushing Academy) and Sandra Dziadas (Long Pond, Pa. / Pocono Mountain West) dropped an 8-3 final against Mary Kate Lemon and Nicole Kracum.
The Dutchmen won the first two completed singles matches to clinch the victory. Shedd came up short against Kracum at third singles, 6-3, 6-0. At sixth singles, Olivia Edwards was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Meaghan Donahue (Walkersville, Md. / Walkersville).
Hood entered the tournament as the fourth seed after posting a 3-3 record in conference play. Overall, the Blazers went 5-10. It was the most overall victories for Hood since the 2011-12 season, when the team went 7-11. The playoff appearance was the Blazers' first since a trip to the Capital Athletic Conference Semifinals in 2009-10.
