Blazers Shut Out Wolverines

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md. - Senior Jessie Herbert (Sykesville, Md. / Century) converted a penalty kick in the 24th minute for what proved to be the only goal of the match in a 1-0 Hood win over visiting Wesley College.

It was the second 1-0 win of the week in which Herbert scored the Blazers' game-winner. The goal against the Wolverines was the 21st marker of her career and put her in sole possession of sixth place on Hood's all-time scoring list with 43 points.

After the penalty kick, both defenses tightened. The two sides combined for just 16 shots in the contest, only four of which were on net.

Alexis Andrukat (Smithsburg, Md. / Smithsburg) stopped two shots to pick up her second straight shutout. As a whole, the Hood defense extended its scoreless streak to 191:22. The defense stymied Janiah Moore, who entered the match with seven goals, holding the freshman without a shot in the contest.

Many of each teams chances did not result in shots as numerous through balls and crosses were disrupted by the opposing defenses. Hood's best chance for a second goal came in the 72nd minute when Elisa Botten (Gaithersburg, Md. / Poolesville) played the ball through to Herbert. Wesley goalkeeper Chelsea Marriner made a sliding scoop just before Herbert could make a play on the ball.

Marriner made one save.

Hood, who improved to 4-3 on the year, will look for its third straight win when the Blazers travel to DeSales on Saturday, September 26.
