Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Hood College fell in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play at Stevenson, 73-52.
Alexis Andrukat (Smithsburg, Md. / Smithsburg) led the Blazers with 11 points and eight rebounds. Taylor McGaughey (New Market, Md. / Oakdale), Verkia Smith (Waldorf, Md. / North Point), Alexis Briscoe (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) and Allie Appleby (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright) had eight points apiece. Shannon O'Meara (Monroe, Conn. / St. Joseph) hit a 3-pointer off the bench and Kelli Lowry (Greenbelt, Md. / Eleanor Roosevelt) scored her first collegiate point.
Trailing 12-7 early, Briscoe scored back-to-back buckets and Smith got in close for two points for a 13-12 Hood lead with one minute, 42 seconds left in the first period. The Mustangs regrouped and took a 16-13 lead into the second.
Two free throws by Appleby pulled the Blazers within 27-24 with 3:17 on the clock, but Stevenson finished the quarter with a 10-1 run for a 37-25 edge a the half.
After the Mustangs built a 20-point lead in the third quarter, Hood never got closer than a pair of Appleby free throws that made it 65-48 with 3:31 to go in the fourth period.
Sara Tarbert led all players with 24 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots. Despite her efforts on the glass, Hood outrebounded the Mustangs 38-29.
Stephanie Martinez had 15 points and four assists.
Hood is scheduled to host Arcadia on January 23 at 1 p.m.
