Box Score GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - Five different players had hat tricks as the Hood College women's lacrosse team defeated Gwynedd Mercy 18-4 in non-conference action.
Kara Phoubandith (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) led the offense with five goals and an assist for six points. Four players - Shay Braitwaite (Montgomery Village, Md. / Watkins Mill), Jade Locklear (Baltimore, Md. / Chesapeake), Taylor McGaughey (New Market, Md. / Oakdale) and Christina Murphy (Denwood, N.J. / Morris Knolls) - had matching stat lines of three goals and two assists apiece.
Anne Lessard (Natick, Mass. / Natick) had five ground balls, three caused turnovers and scored once. Locklear secured nine draw controls. Lauren Couch (Crownsville, Md. / Old Mill) made six saves.
Locklear, Phoubandith and Murphy all scored in the first minute and 14 seconds of the contest to give the Blazers a 3-0 lead. After Kerri Flanagan put the Griffins on the scoreboard, the Blazers scored seven straight goals to take a 10-1 lead into halftime.
Lauren Mitros scored to open the second half, but McGaughey scored 26 seconds later to start a five-goal run with 27:26 to play. Braithwaite's goal with 16:49 remaining made it 15-2.
Hood had nine assists in the game, the most for the Blazers since the 2014 season.
Mitros scored twice to lead the Griffins. Brianna Greer had three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Bria Gillard stopped six shots.
Hood outshot Gwynedd Mercy 30-13 and held a 17-6 advantage on draw controls.
The Blazers, 4-3 in 2016, head to Southern Virginia on Mar. 21.
