OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Hood College women's tennis team picked up a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth victory with a 7-2 win over Stevenson.
The Blazers won two of the three doubles matches to take control of the match. The top pairing of Olivia Hosch (Newport, R.I. / Cushing Academy) and Michelle Shedd (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) shut out Ashlyn Hawbaker and Colleen Martin, 8-0.
At third doubles, Sophie Smith (Freeport, Maine / Freeport) and Bianca Hoch (Frederick, Md. / Urbana) were 8-1 winners against Jennifer Garcia and Kaitlyn Vantash.
Hosch, Shedd, Smith and Hoch all picked up second wins with singles victories. Hosch won 6-0, 6-3 at first singles over Ty-Chelle Williams. Shedd scored a 6-2, 7-5 win at second singles against Hawbaker. Aubrey Fetters (Frostburg, Md. / Bishop Walsh) beat Martin, 7-5, 6-1, at third singles. Smith scored a 6-1, 6-4 win at fifth singles over Christina Endy. Hoch won a pro-set 8-0 against Sara Downing, 8-0, at sixth singles.
Hood improved to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the MAC Commonwealth.
The Blazers host Lycoming on Apr. 16.
