FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's tennis team won all nine matches to sweep visiting Lycoming in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth contest, 9-0.
With the victory, the Blazers are 7-6 overall and 3-1 in the MAC Commonwealth.
Hood's second doubles tandem of Meaghan Donahue (Walkersville, Md. / Walkersville) and Aubrey Fetters (Frostburg, Md. / Bishop Walsh) defeated Brittany Lenze and Kim Parroccini 8-1. Olivia Hosch (Newport, R.I. / Cushing Academy) and Michelle Shedd (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) captured the match against Kaitlin Hallabuck and Sophie Herzing at first doubles 8-3. An 8-5 win at third doubles by Sophie Smith (Freeport, Maine / Freeport) and Bianca Hoch (Frederick, Md. / Urbana) over Samantha Bruckart and Ashley Stover sent the Blazers into singles play with a 3-0 lead.
All six players won again in singles to finish the sweep.
At first singles, Hosch won a tiebreaker in the first set against Herzing and went on to win 7-6 (4), 6-0. Shedd needed three sets to dispatch Hallabuck at second singles 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. Fetters was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Parroccini at third singles. Smith recorded a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Mariah Durant at fourth singles. Donahue used a 7-3 tiebreaker in the second set to defeat Bruckart 6-2, 7-6 (3). Hoch won her seventh straight match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at sixth singles opposite Stover.
