Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's lacrosse team dropped its Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opener to visiting Widener, 19-5.
Jade Locklear (Baltimore, Md. / Chesapeake) scored three of the Blazers' five goals. She became just the eighth player in school history to register a 30-goal season with her final tally of the day. Lauren Couch (Crownsville, Md. / Old Mill) made five saves to top the 700-save mark for her career.
Hood did not have an answer for the Pride's Meghan Garvey. She finished with 13 points on five goals and eight assists.
Her first assist came just 11 seconds into the contest as Widener won the opening draw and Brooke Clasing scored. It was the start of a 10-goal run for the Pride.
The Blazers made a small run to end the half, scoring three goals in the final 2:01. Locklear and Murphy scored before Anne Lessard (Natick, Mass. / Natick) fed Locklear to beat the buzzer with one second left in the half. Locklear's third score of the day made it 12-4 at the half.
In addition to Garvey's big day, Clasing had four goals and two assists. Angie Baricko scored twice and had three assists. Grace Morales stopped six shots.
Hood travels to Lebanon Valley on Apr. 6.
