ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Hood College women's tennis team scored a 5-4 win over Lebanon Valley in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth match.
Olivia Hosch (Newport, R.I. / Cushing Academy) and Michelle Shedd (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) teamed for a win at first doubles and the players won at first and second singles, respectively. Sophie Smith (Freeport, Maine / Freeport) also won twice.
Hosch and Shedd were 8-3 winners over Rebecca Pierpont and Marla Scacchitti at first doubles. Smith and Bianca Hoch (Frederick, Md. / Urbana) won 8-5 at third doubles to send the Blazers to singles action with a 2-1 lead.
Hosch notched a 6-4, 6-2 win against Pierpont at first singles. Shedd needed three sets for her win at second singles over Scacchitti 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Smith cruised at fourth singles 6-4, 6-1 over Ariana Freeman.
With the win, Hood is 8-8 overall and moved into third place in the MAC Commonwealth with a 4-2 record.
The Blazers host Arcadia on Apr. 30.
