Molly Kovarik named women's soccer head coach

FREDERICK, Md. - Molly Kovarik has been named the new women's soccer head coach at Hood College, Director of Athletics Dr. Susan Kolb announced.

In addition to her duties with the women's soccer program, Kovarik will be NCAA compliance coordinator at Hood.

"I am honored, grateful, and beyond excited to be named the head women's soccer coach and compliance coordinator at Hood College," Kovarik said. "I would like to thank Dr. Kolb for this incredible opportunity, as well as the rest of the Hood College faculty, staff, and student-athletes whose passion and camaraderie for Hood was evident from the moment I stepped foot on campus."

Kovarik comes to Hood from Washington College, where she served as an assistant coach for the 2019 season. During her season with the Shorewomen, the team produced one All-Centennial Conference selection.

"I would be remiss in not thanking Tom Reilly, Roy Dunshee, Thad Moore, and the rest of the athletic staff at Washington College for their mentorship, guidance, and support over the past two years as an assistant coach," said Kovarik. "While I will miss them all dearly, I'm ready to transition and become a Blazer! I cannot wait to work with these dedicated young women to further the momentum of the program and am humbled to be a part of the Hood College athletic tradition."

Kovarik inherits a team coming off one of the best seasons in program history in 2019. The Blazers earned their first bid to the MAC Commonwealth Championships and tied the 14-year-old school record for victories with 11. Midfielder Courtney Ellis was voted the MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year and was one of four Hood student-athletes voted to the all-conference team that year.

"Molly is an energetic coach ready to expand on her coaching experience and passion for the game," Kolb said. "Hood has faced Molly on the opposite sideline and it's a positive change to have her working for our program rather than against. I feel sure she is going to build on the recent success of our women's soccer program and improve on what has made us a regional competitor."

Prior to her time with Washington, Kovarik spent two years as an assistant coach with the Eastern (Pa.) University women's soccer program. The Eagles had five All-Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom performers and qualified for the MAC Freedom Championships in 2017.

Kovarik yielded a productive playing career at Marian University in Wisconsin, playing four years of both soccer and basketball. She earned Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference Honors in two seasons as a defender for the Sabres in soccer and held roles as a captain in both sports.

She holds a U.S. Soccer Federation Class F License.

Kovarik graduated from Marian in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in forensic science while minoring in both chemistry and biology and completed her Master of Arts in organizational leadership from Eastern in 2019.
