ANNVILLE, Pa. - After a strong first half, the Hood College women's basketball team struggled to carry the momentum in the second half as Lebanon Valley College completed the comeback 55-49 in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play.
Inside the Box Score
- Tiffany Manning (Randallstown, Md./Western Tech) recorded a team-high 16 points, while grabbing nine rebounds. The junior also dished out three assists and had two steals.
- Lele Wright (Wilmington, Del./Howard) grabbed a career high 15 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass, and had four steals.
- Marlise Newson (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) ended the afternoon with eight points, going 4-for-7 shooting.
- Philippa Clouse (Olney, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) added eight rebounds and three steals.
How it Happened
- The Blazers opened the game on a 12-0 run, holding the Dutchmen scoreless for the first five minutes of the game. Tam Stanford (Baltimore, Md./Our Lady of Mount Carmel), Manning and Newson all totaled four points during that span.
- Wright knocked down a 3-pointer right before the buzzer, giving Hood a 18-7 lead after the first period.
- Manning stretched the Blazers lead to 13, when she connected from behind the arc, making it a 22-9 lead with 7:18 left in the second period.
- LVC shrunk the Blazers' advantage to nine points, when Kate Fitzpatrick drove to the basket converting a lay-up. Hood still held a 24-15 lead just under four minutes to go in the first half.
- Riley Hevelow got the Dutchmen within eight as she made a driving lay-up with under two minutes in the first half. The Blazers would take a 28-20 lead into the locker room.
- LVC began the second half with a 6-0 run, pulling within two on a Havelow layup.
- Both teams would trade baskets throughout the last eight minutes of the third period, but the Blazers held the lead 40-35 going into the final period.
- Stanford made a turnaround jumper, stretching Hood's lead back up to seven, 44-37, with eight minutes left in the game.
- LVC never led until a Daelyn Stabler lay-up with just under two minutes left in the game 51-49. The bucket was part of an 18-5 run in the final eight minutes of the game that gave the Dutchmen the win.
Analysis
- The Dutchmen edged Hood in rebounds 49-45.
- Neither team had a strong afternoon shooting free throws. LVC went 10-for-17 at the free-throw line (58 percent), while Hood was 4-for-10 (40 percent).
