FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Hood College baseball team dropped a non-conference game to Western Connecticut State in a slugfest 11-9.

On the Mound
- Joe Alexander started the game for the Blazers and lasted only 2.1 innings. The junior allowed six runs on eight hits, struck out two and took the loss.  Â
- Cole Whitton was first out of the bullpen and allowed two runs on two hits in 0.2 innings.
- Ryan McCreedy pitched 0.2 scoreless innings.
- Gabe Rivera pitched an inning, allowing three runs on two hits, striking out one.Â
- Joe Monteleone finished the game strong for the Blazers. The sophomore threw 4.1 shutout innings, allowing only three hits and three walks.    Â
Western Connecticut State 11, Hood 9
- Scoring started early in the game, when Haines was caught in a run down in the bottom of the first that scored Reyna for a 1-0 lead..Â
- WCSU got its first two hitters on base in the second inning. Spencer Barnett grounded out to shortstop Haines to score Hunter Loomis from third. The next batter, Michael Kolf, reached on an error by Alexander that scored Nicholas Moeller to give the Colonials their first lead 2-1.Â
- Hood regained the lead in the bottom of the second. Parmach grounded out to second by Julian Gonzalez that scored Saylor. On the next pitch, Stephen Sommer scored on a passed ball giving the Blazers a 3-2 advantage.Â
- WCSU created distance from the Blazers in the third inning, plating six in the inning on six hits. Max Gregory had an RBI double to start the scoring, and later scored on a wild pitch. Joe Gambino scored another wild pitch. Moeller drove in Loomis on a single but got thrown out at second trying to take an extra base. Kevin Smith singled with the bases-loaded to knock in Kolf And Cordone to give WCSU the lead 8-3.
- Scoring on wild pitches became a theme in the third inning, as Schwarzman came home on the fourth wild pitch of the inning to cut the Colonials lead down to 8-4.Â
- In the fifth inning, WCSU scored three more runs. A double by Gregory scored Gonzalez to give WCSU a five-run lead. Gambino, who later scored on a groundout, hit a triple the next at bat to plate Gregory,Â
- Trailing 11-4 ,the Blazers attempted to battle back for the rest of the game. Reyna doubled to lead off the bottom of the fifth and scored on a base hit by Haines. Schwarzman singled the next at bat to bring in Haines. The last run was scored after a stolen base by Schwarzman that was mishandled by Loomis to bring the sophomore home. In the sixth inning Schopf was hit by a pitch and later scored on a Reyna sacrifice fly to inch the Blazers within three, 11-8.
- The Blazers last run was scored in the eighth inning Schopf doubled and scored on an error. Â Â Â
For the OpponentÂ
- Loomis went 4-for-6 to lead the Colonials, scoring twice and recording an RBI.
- Gregory ended the day 3-for-6 with two RBIs and scored twice.
- Kolf walked twice and scored twice during a 2-for-3 day.

- Western Connecticut State improves to 4-2.
