Errors doom Blazers against Kenyon College


FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Hood College baseball team dropped both games of the doubleheader against Kenyon College to close out the Blazers' spring break trip 8-1 and 10-0. 

 At the Plate
  • AJ Haines led the Blazers over the two games going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
  • Matthew Stout recorded a double in game two.
  • Cristian Reyna singled and walked twice in the opener. 
On the Mound
  • Dutch DeProspero started game one for the Blazers and took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in four innings of work. He also had two strikeouts and two walks. 
  • Ryan McCreedy let up one run on two hits, walking one and striking out one in one inning. 
  • Trey Baker pitched a scoreless sixth inning.  
  • Colby Childs started game two for Hood and lasted 3.1 innings, allowing five runs, two earned, on four hits. He struck out one and took the loss. 
  • Four relievers followed Childs. Joe Monteleone threw 1.2 innings, giving up one run on one hit. Frank Spaide struggled only throwing 0.1 of an inning. He allowed four runs on two hits. Jacob Cutter saw his first action of the year on the mound and did not allow a baserunner in  0.2 innings. Cole Whitton finished the game throwing a scoreless seventh, adding a strikeout.       
Kenyon 8, Hood 1
  • Kenyon got on the board early, scoring two runs in the first inning. Andrew Rabinowitz doubled, scoring Alex Gow. Later in the inning, Rabinowitz scored on an AJ Haines error to give the Lords a 2-0 advantage. 
  • Kenyon added to its lead in the second inning scoring two more runs. Alexander Hoskins doubled into the gap to drive in Edwin Groff. An error by Alex Jenkins at third base scored Hoskins from second to up the Lords' lead to 4-0.
  • Hoskins hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to start a three-run inning for Kenyon. Later in the fourth, Rabinowitz hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Will Sturgeon as the Lords jumped out to a 7-0 lead.
  • Haines got the Blazers into the scoring column in the fifth , hitting a single to drive in Schwarzman from second to make the score 7-1. 
  • Kenyon scored its last run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Gaynor double that drove in  Drew Robinson. 
Kenyon 10, Hood 0
  • Kenyon started the scoring in game two in the third inning. Hoskins scored the first run on an error by Childs. Meister reached on the second error of the inning that allowed  Gaynor and Sturgeon to cross home as the Lords jumped out in front 3-0. 
  • The Lords added three runs in the fourth inning to go ahead 6-0. The Blazers committed two errors in back-to-back innings to aid Kenyon. Robinson scored on a Hoskins sacrifice fly to start the inning. Groff scored the second run on a wild pitch, and Gaynor scored on a Schwarzman error.
  • The Blazers struggled in the field as they committed two more errors in the sixth inning to give Kenyon two more runs in a four-run fifth. The Lords got started on a Sturgeon homer to kick off the inning. Tripper Capps was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that scored Ryan Beach-Verhey. The next batter Robinson reached on an error by Dylan Onorevole that enabled  Rabinowitz to score from third. The Lords' last run of the game came on a Groff sacrifice fly that brought in Meister.              
For the Opponent 
  • Sturgeon and Hoskins each homered to lead the Lords.
  • Gaynor, Rabinowitz, Groff and Hoskins all had a double.
  • Robinson recorded two stolen bases in game one.
  • Gow pitched a seven inning complete game in game one to lead Kenyon pitchers. He allowed one run on five hits and recorded 15 strikeouts.
  • Liam Rosengren received the win in game two for the Lords, striking out four in two innings. 
Notes
  • Hood falls to 7-11 on the year.  
  • Kenyon College improves to 8-6.
