GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Hood College baseball team dropped a non-conference game to Gettysburg College 18-8.
At the Plate
On the Mound
- Dutch DeProspero started the game for the Blazers, allowing two runs on five hits in four innings of work. He also had four strikeouts and a walk.
- Colby Childs struggled in his 2.2 innings on the mound, giving up eight runs on six hits. He recorded three strikeouts and three walks, and took the loss.
- Trey Baker gave up two runs on two hits to finish a rough seventh inning.
- Seve Guarneschelli and Cole Whitton combined to pitch the eighth, walking six and allowing six runs.
How it Happened
- Hood took the lead in the first inning, with Jenkins scoring from second on a two-out Stout double to give the Blazers the lead 1-0.
- Gettysburg tied the game up in the bottom of the second by way of a Mark Seibert triple that was mishandled in the outfield allowing him to score from third.
- The Bullets grabbed their first lead of the game in the fourth inning on a Matthew Peipher single that scored Jack Pistner to give Gettysburg a 2-1 advantage.
- The Blazers would tie the game back up in the sixth, when Joe Monteleone grounded out to Matt Muir at second that scored Sam Wheeler from third.
- Gettysburg took the lead right back in the bottom half of the sixth inning, scoring three runs on three hits to take a 5-2 advantage. Andrew Decker tripled to drive in Muir to start the scoring. Decker came home on a wild pitch and Seibert doubled into the right field gap to bring Pistner in from second.
- The Blazers got within one run in the seventh inning after a lead-off double by Haines and a Schwarzman single, Jenkins grounded out to second to score Haines from third. Stout doubled into the left field gap that brought in Schwarzman to cut the deficit to 5-4.
- Gettysburg's offense exploded in the seventh inning, putting up seven runs to put the game out of reach. With the bases-loaded Decker hits a base-clearing double to bring in Tristan Neels, David Preziuso and Muir. The Bullets loaded up the bases again later in the inning, Shane Manieri walked to score Decker. With the bases still loaded JR McCloskey singled through the left side of the field to score Seibert and Peipher. Gettysburg's explosive inning ended as Preziuso singled to score Manieri. The Bullets led 12-4 going into the eighth.
- Hood cut into the lead in the eighth inning scoring three runs. Matt Schopf pinch ran for Monteleone after a single. Schopf moved over to third, following a Saylor double. Haines grounded out to Decker at third base to score Schopf. The next at-bat Schwarzman tripled in Saylor from second and scored on a throwing error by Muir cutting the Gettysburg lead to 12-7.
- The Bullets benefited from six consecutive walks issued by the Blazers' pitching staff to score six more runs in the eighth inning. After Guarneschelli walked four straight batters to start the inning, Whitton walked the first two batters he faced to make it 15-7. Later in the inning Preziuso singled off Whitton to score Peipher. Muir grounded into a fielder's choice that brought in Seibert from third. The Blazers, trying to turn the double play, threw the ball out of play that scored Manieri from second. Gettysburg lead was back up to 18-7.
- Hood scored one run in the ninth inning on a Keegan Brennan single that scored James Gruenfelder.
For the Opponent
- Decker and Seibert led the Bullets, recording a triple and a double apiece, combining for six RBIs in the game.
- Pistner ended the day going 2-for-4 with a triple and scored three times. He also had the only stolen base of the game.
- Preziuso had a 3-for-5 day at the plate with two RBIs and a run.
- Patrick Clementi started the game and pitched 5.1 innings allowing two runs on five hits and three strikeouts.
- Teo Torrado received the win for Gettysburg coming in first out of the bullpen throwing 2.1 innings.
