FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College Baseball team could not recover from multiple errors in both games of the doubleheader against ninth-ranked Eastern Connecticut State University falling 5-0 and 5-2.
At the Plate
On the MoundÂ
- Dutch DeProspero pitched six shutout innings in game one, allowing three hits and two walks, striking out four. Gavin Pollard took the loss, allowing one run on one hit. Kevin Nelson, Jr. had a rough outing, giving up four runs in 0.2 innings. Frank Spaide finished the first game throwing 1.1 hitless innings, walking one and striking out one.Â
- Colby Childs got the call to start game two and went five full innings, allowing three runs on four hits, walking three and striking out four he took the loss. Cole Whitton pitched an inning of relief, giving up one run on two hits. Ryan McCreedy pitched two innings, allowing one run on one hit, striking out one. Seve Guarneschelli closed the game in the ninth, walking one in a hitless inning.  Â
ECSU 5, Hood 0
- Both starting pitchers were in control for the first six innings, only allowing four hits between the two. DeProspero retired seven batters in a row from the second through the fourth inning.Â
- Noah Plantamuro led off the seventh inning with a single for the Warriors. After a throwing error by Saylor, Plantamuro advanced to third base with no outs. ECSU's Brent Cosculluela hit a shallow fly ball to right field that was dropped by Andrew Perkins to plate the first run of the game.Â
- The Warriors created distance between themselves and the Blazers in the eighth inning. Dean Slavin singled to score Luke Broadhurst from third to make it 2-0. On the very next play, Plantamuro reached on an error by James DeProspero that scored Slavin. After two walks, Jason Claiborn walked with the bases loaded to score Matt Malcolm. The scoring ended with another bases loaded walk, this one by Ryan Bagdasarian to give the Warriors a 5-0 lead after eight.
- Billy Oldham was dominant over the first seven shutout innings for ECSU. He allowed just one hit and struck out 14.Â
- Plantamuro led the Warriors at the plate going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
ECSU 5, Hood 2
- ECSU would start the scoring in the second inning. After a Broadhurst walk, and a Josh Tower single, Bagdasarian doubled down the left field line to bring in Broadhurst to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.Â
- Hood took its first lead of the day in the third inning. Schwarzman singled into the left field gap scoring Keegan Brennan from second. Reyna drove in Schwarzman on the next at bat, giving the Blazers the 2-1 lead.
- The Warriors took the lead back in the fifth inning by scoring two runs. Jack Rich singled, scoring John Mesagno from third that tied the game. The Warriors ran a safety squeeze as Broadhurst put down a great bunt, bringing in Rich to put ECSU back on top 3-2 after five innings.Â
- ECSU added an insurance run in the sixth inning as Claiborn singled, knocking in Matthew Bradbury to give the Warriors a 4-2 lead.Â
- The scoring ended in the eighth inning when Claiborn reached on an error by Reyna that brought in Bradbury to give ECSU their largest lead of the game at 5-2.Â
- Bryan Albee pitched four innings in relief only allowing one hit, and struck out one for the win.
- Claiborn went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.    Â

- Hood falls to 4-5 on the season. Â
- Eastern Connecticut State starts their 2022 season 2-0.
