Men's lacrosse defeats Albright 16-9 on senior day

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College men's lacrosse team closed their season with a 16-9 victory over Albright College in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action. 

Inside the Numbers
  • Robbie Wiley (York, PA/Central York) scored a game-high four goals for Hood. 
  • Colby Gallagher (Coatesville, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and Rio Muldoon (Prince Frederick, MD/DeMatha Catholic) both netted three goals each. Muldoon also added two assists and five ground balls while Gallagher added one assist. 
  • Owen McDermott (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser), Kyle Scott (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), Jackson Hand (Orangeville, ON/Orangeville District Secondary), Andreas McKendry (Haverford, PA/Haverford Senior High School), Ethan Betcher (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) and Jay Lanigan (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) all scored once. McDermott also dished out a game-high three assists. 
  • Sammy Patnaik (Fairfax, VA/Robinson Secondary) led the defense with five caused turnovers while Luke Harned (Frederick, MD/Walkersville) added four for Hood.
  • Garrett Hitchens (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) went 20-24 at the faceoff and picked up 16 ground balls. 
  • Alex Dudziak (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) recorded 13 saves in 60 minutes while also adding two ground balls.
How It Happened
  • Only two goals were scored in the first quarter. Hood took the 1-0 lead at 8:15 when Scott assisted Muldoon's first of the day. Albright answered three minutes before the end of the first when Jacob Cunningham found the back of the net off a Tyler Richards pass to make the score 1-1 going into the second quarter. 
  • Hood held Albright scoreless in the second after going on an eight-goal run to take the 9-1 lead going into the second half. Wiley scored the run's first three goals off assists from Muldoon and Lanigan while also scoring an unassisted tally with 8:10 left on the clock. 
  • McDermott continued the run with a goal off a Muldoon pass to make the score 5-1. At 6:56, McKendry scored off a pass from Gallagher, then two seconds later McKendry found Wiley who found the back of the net for the fourth time of the day to take the 7-1 lead. 
  • The Blazers continued the scoring frenzy as Scott netted his lone goal of the day at 1:57 off a McDermott pass and Gallagher scored an around-the-world goal off a Hand pass to extend the lead to 9-1 going into the third quarter. 
  • Coming out of the halftime break, Gallagher scored his second of the day with 13:59 remaining in the third quarter. 
  • Albright ended the scoring drought as Alex McKendry found the back of the net with 12:21 on the clock to lessen the lead 10-2. 
  • Muldoon answered the McKendry goal with his second tally 16 seconds after the Lions goal to push the lead to 11-2. 
  • McKendry scored his second of the day and then assisted Jack Burke to make the score 11-4 with 9:16 left in the third. 
  • Hood scored three-straight goals with tallies from Betcher, Muldoon and Lanigan to extend the Blazer lead 14-4. 
  • Albright scored the final goal of the third as Cunningham found the back of the net with 2:09 left in the third to make the score 14-5. 
  • To open the final quarter, Hand scored off a McDermott assist and Gallagher secured the hat trick off an Aidan Gilsdorf (Frederick, MD/Gov Thomas Johnson) assist with 11:32 remaining in the game to extend the lead 16-5. 
  • McKendry scored twice while Shane Early and Burke once to round out the game's scoring that secured the 16-9 win for Hood over Albright. 
For the Opponent
  • McKendry led the Lions with four goals and one assist while Burke and Cunningham both scored once. Cunningham also added two assists and five ground balls. 
  • Ryan Janowski led the defense with two caused turnovers and three ground balls. 
  • Noah Marchiafava went 5-17 in faceoffs while Justinus Park went 2-12. 
  • Ethan Hendershott recorded 16 saves and one ground ball. 
Analysis 
  • Hood outshot Albright 61-35. 
  • The Blazers won the ground ball battle 55-33. 
  • Hood successfully cleared the ball 26-out-of-29 times.
