READING, Pa. - The Hood College women's volleyball team forced a fourth set but fell 3-1 at Alvernia in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opener for both teams.

Alvernia 25, Hood 9
- The Blazers took an early 3-2 lead on a kill by Ambruster before the Golden Wolves took control of the opening.
- Alvernia's Rachel Sipling had three kills and two aces during a 12-0 run that put the first set out of reach.
Alvernia 28, Hood 26
- Two kills and a block assist by Ambruster helped the Blazers erase a 24-20 deficit, tying the match at 24-24.
- Hood tied the score again at 25-25 and 26-26 but the Golden Wolves took advantage of a pair of miscues by Hood to take the 2-0 lead in the match.
Hood 25, Alvernia 23
- Back-to-back kills by Ambruster followed by back-to-back aces by Malitzki ignited an 8-1 run for Hood that put the Blazers ahead 19-13 in the third set.
- Hood still led 23-17 when the Golden Wolves rattled off a 6-1 spurt to pull within 24-23. Hood score the final point to stay alive in the match.
Alvernia 25, Hood 23
- The two sides traded early run in the fourth set. Hood fell behind 4-0 but surged ahead to an 8-4 lead on a kill by Shane Simms (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point).
- The Blazers led 17-15 when Alvernia started a five-point run to take the lead for good.
For the Opponent
- Sipling led all players with 21 kills and had a team-high 14 digs.
- Patricia Falar led a trio of setters for the Golden Wolves with 12 assists.
- Jordan Thompson recorded 13 digs.

- Hood slipped to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
- Alvernia remained unbeaten at 4-0, including 1-0 in MAC Commonwealth play.
