Slow start too much to overcome at Eastern


ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The Hood College women's basketball struggled shooting in the first half and fell on the road to Eastern 49-40 in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play.  

Inside the Box Score
  • Philippa Clouse (Olney, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) recorded her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The senior also had two blocks in the game.
  • Lele Wright (Wilmington, Del./Howard) scored 11 points while adding six rebounds. 
  • Tiffany Manning (Randallstown, Md./Western Tech) grabbed 12 rebounds and had four steals. 
How it Happened
  • Hood was down 37-23 going into the fourth period, but the Blazers used a 12-5 run to get within seven as Clouse converted a lay-up with 1:53 left to make it 42-35. 
  • Hood pulled within seven again when Wright hit a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left before Eastern iced the game with two Wynter Bess free throws in the final seconds.
  • The Eagles' biggest lead game came with 8:49 left in the third period 31-10, as Jeriyah Johnson made back-to-back shots for a five-point spurt. 
  • Hood answered with an 8-0 run to pull within 13 points, as Manning accounted for half the points, but still trailed 31-18 with 3:43 left. 
  • The Blazers struggled in the first-half from the field, shooting just 17 percent , and were outscored 26-10 throughout the first half. 
Analysis
  • Both teams struggled shooting from the field, as Hood shot 24 percent and Eastern was slightly better at 30 percent. 
  • Hood outrebounded Eastern 49-46. 
  • The Blazers' bench outscored Eastern 16-5.
  • The Eagles made six 3-pointers, compared to Hood's one.
For the Opponent
  • Bess recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while adding four steals. 
  • Johnson led the Eagles in points with 17 and recorded five rebounds. 
  • Taryn Woodson ended the afternoon with a team-high 12 rebounds, to a nine-point game.
