FREDERICK, Md. -
Chanelle Lee (Brunswick, Md./Saint John's Catholic Prep) and
Sami Betley (Bel Air, Md./Mercy) guided Hood College to its first win of the season in a nail-biting contest defeating visiting Penn State Harrisburg 68-65.

How it Happened
Hood began the game with three different players (Lee, Betley and
Amari Faust (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock))scoring in the paint. This scoring run would give the Blazers an early lead over Penn State Harrisburg. The Nittany Lions would respond with a good layup of their own by Nicole Hernandez to give them he lead. In the final minute of the first quarter
Jada Turner (Glen Burnie, Md./North County) made a two-point jumper followed up by a good Lee layup to give the Blazers the lead going into the second.
Entering the second half of play Faust set the tone with a made three-pointer. Penn State Harrisburg would go on a seven point scoring run; however, Hood showed determination to stay in the game. Closing out the first half Lee and Stanford made layups giving Hood the lead at half 36-35.
The third quarter began with a Blazer scoring run of eight points which would be the largest scoring run in the game. Hood led Penn State Harrisburg with nine points credited to two layups by Lee as well as a made jumper and layup by Betley. In the final minutes of the third the Nittany Lions gained the lead following a made three pointer by Jayla Galbreath and two made free-throws by Giahny Correa.
In the final quarter of play both teams were battling for a lead. Overall there were 12 lead changes in the match five of which took place in the fourth quarter. In the third minute of play Stanford made two cruical free-throws to bring the Blazers within one. Following the foul shots Betley made a jumpshot to give the Blazers the lead. Finally Stanford closed out the scoring for the match with a made jumper of her own. The game concluded with a score of 68-65 in favor of Hood.
For the Opponent
Giahny Correa was rewarded 22 points and three assists.
Jayla Galbreath had 19 points and one assist on the day.
Analysis
Hood shot 63.6 percent from the field compared to Penn State Harrisburg's 47.2 percent.
The Blazers out scored the Nittany Lions in points in the paint 40-30.

When asked about the outcome of the game, Head Coach DéRonté Polite said, "Obviously it is our first win so everyone is ecstatic about that. I thought it was a total team effort. We had alot of people contribute and we had moments when could have quit but we didn't. Everybody contributed and we worked hard to get our first victory."
