Women's basketball falls on Senior Day

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's basketball team jumped ahead 19-8 in the first quarter but a perilous third quarter run by Alvernia gave the Golden Wolves a 66-48 on the Blazers' Senior Day in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play. 

Inside the Box Score 
  • Lele Wright (Wilmington, Del./Howard) finished with 14 points and nine rebounds for Hood. 
  • Marlise Newson (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) scored 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting. 
  • Snoop Robinson (Atlanta, Ga./Holderness) grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds, while Philippa Clouse (Olney, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) added 11. 
How It Happened 
  • Wright scored eight of her 14 in the first period as the Blazers jumped in front 19-8. She scored five of the final seven points of the quarter as Hood extended four-point lead to 11 entering the second quarter. 
  • Defenses dominated the second quarter as the teams combined to shoot 8-for-40. Six points in the quarter by Newson proved to be the difference as the Blazers led 28-22 at halftime. 
  • The third period was all Alvernia. The Golden Wolves went 6-for-8 from 3-point range in the quarter and Taliyah Malone and Jordan Karmonick combined for 16 points as AU outscored Hood 33-8 to take a 55-36 advantage. 
Analysis
  • Despite shooting over 60 percent in the third quarter, the Golden Wolves struggled to find their shot for most of the game, finishing at 30 percent overall. 
  • Hood held a slim 58-56 rebounding advantage. 
For the Opponent
  • Karmonick scored 16 points and hit four 3-pointers to lead Alvernia. 
  • Cathryn Kramer recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. 
  • Malone and Tamia Wessels scored 10 points apiece and Wessels added five assists. 
  • Kayla Williams blocked five shots.
