Blazers cruise to a 14-1 victory

Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's lacrosse team defeated the Gophers of Goucher College 14-1. 
 Inside the Box Score  
  • Abby Burnette (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) ended the night with a hat-trick for the Blazers.
  • Mackenzie Demaio (Urbana, Md./Coronado (Calif.)) scored two goals, scooped four ground balls and caused two turnovers. 
  • Jaylen Brooks (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) tallied two goals and had a career high with three ground balls.
  • MacKenzi Wright (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) had two goals and two caused turnovers for Hood.
  • Ellie Glawe (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore) made five saves in the cage.
How it Happened 
  • Hood had a fast start, scoring two goals in the first two minutes with goals from Demaio and Wright. Three minutes later Burnette scored a goal that was assisted by Julia Gregory (Sussex, N.J./Vernon Twp.) to make it a 3-0 game. Two more goals from Demaio and Burnette gave the Blazers a 5-0 lead going into the second period. In the first period, the Blazers only allowed one shot against.
  • Hood picked up where they left off by scoring two goals from Gregory and Burnette within the first five minutes of the second period to make it a 7-0 game. The Blazers scored twice within a minute with goals by Wright and Stanley. Hood scored one final time in the first half with a goal scored by Kayla Russell (Elkton, Md./Northeast) to make it 10-0 with 5:33 left in the first half.
  • The Blazers controlled position once again to start the second half. They only allowed one shot against and scored four goals with three from Brooks and one from Savannah Winpigler (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford).
  • The only goal scored in the fourth quarter was a Gopher goal scored by Bella McKinney, assisted by Katherine Luetgens.
Analysis  
  • The Blazers outshot the Gophers 26-10. 
  • Hood won the groundball battle 23-19. 
  • The Blazers had 18 draw controls to the Gophers 11.
 For the Opponent  
  • Bella McKinney scored the only goal for the Gophers.
  • Amaya Locke scooped up four ground balls. 
  • Belle Christ made three saves in the net.
