FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's lacrosse team fell to visiting New Paltz in non-conference action 11-6.

- Mackenzie Demaio (Urbana, Md./Coronado (Calif.)) turned in a strong all-around performance. The junior scored a hat trick, had an assist, three draw controls and caused five turnovers. Her five caused turnovers were the most for a Blazer since 2019 (Rachel Slater).Â
- MacKenzi Wright (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) finished the game with two goals and two ground balls.

How it Happened
- After the Hawks' Lexi Atwater scored twice in the opening three-and-a-half minutes, The Blazers rallied for three scores during a span of 91 seconds to take the lead.Â
- Wright got the Blazers on the board with 6:54 left in the first. Demaio scored a minute later, then assisted on an Avery Stanley (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) goal at 5:23 to make it 3-2.Â
- New Paltz added a pair of quick scores of its own to lead 4-3 after the first. Kaitlyn Shaw fed Shannon Brosnan at 2:52, then scored herself 26 seconds later.Â
- Three different Hawks scored in the second quarter, while Hood's offense went cold, allowing New Paltz to take a 7-3 lead into halftime.Â
- Neither team scored for over nine minutes at the start of the third. Wright deposited a pass from Kayla Russell (Elkton, Md./Northeast) at 5:49 and three minutes later Demaio cut it to 7-5 with her second of the game.Â
- A late score in the third by Shaw made it 8-5 heading into the final 15 minutes. Shaw scored again with 12:31 to go in the game and Atwater's third made it 10-5 with 9:06 to go.
- Demaio scored at 8:23, but a goal by Julia Longo with 6:46 left dashed Hood's comeback hopes. Â
