ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The Hood College softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader at Eastern 7-0 and 2-1.
At the Plate
- Rachel Benden (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) recorded two hits in game two with an RBI double.
- Rebecca Gottleib (Linthicum, Md./North County) had a hit and scored in game two.
On the Mound
- Gottleib started both games. In game one for the Blazers, she gave up four runs on three hits in two innings to take the loss. In game two, she scattered five hits and allowed two runs to score. The sophomore walked two and struck out three.
- Benden threw the final four innings in the opener, letting in three runs on five hits. She also struck out two and walked two.
Eastern 7, Hood 0
- In the second, Jania Long started the inning by reaching first on an error by Mallorie Hetzel (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) at shortstop. Long was knocked in on a Susana Perez single to right field. Sophie Rollins reached on an error by Hetzel to put runners on the corners with one out. Perez stole home for the Eagle's second run of the inning. Kelci Cost singled up the middle to score Rollins from second and Cost crossed home on a wild pitch later in the inning for a 4-0 lead for Eastern.
- Perez doubled to left center field in the fourth and scored on a Cost triple down the left field line.
- Alyssa Binczak doubled to start the fifth inning for the Eagles and Faith Zanetich was sent in to pitch run. Zanetich was knocked in on a Mackenzie Laub homer to left field to end the scoring for Eastern.
Eastern 2, Hood 1
- Hood grabbed its first lead of the day early in the first inning. Gottleib singled up the middle and scored on a Benden double into the left field gap.
- Sydney Ostolaza walked in the second inning for Eastern and was knocked in on a Sami Britton double into the right field gap to tie up the game at 1-1.
- The Eagles took the lead in the fifth inning as Perez singled up the middle to start the inning. Rollins came in to pinch run and with one out scored as Laub reached first on a fielder's choice.
For the Opponent
- Laub ended the afternoon with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored.
- Cost went 2-for-4 on the day with a triple, two RBIs and scored once.
- Perez recorded three hits in the doubleheader with a double and an RBI.
- Britton and Binczak both hit a double.
- Victoria Perez started game one for the Eagles and allowed just one hit in five innings with two strikeouts to get the win.
- Bryn Clifford gave up one hit in the final two innings. In game two, Clifford let up just two hits in the final inning to get the save.
- Long started game two for Eastern and had five strikeouts in six innings. She gave up one run on one hit to receive the win.

The Blazers are back in action on Saturday, Apr. 15 when they travel to York College of Pennslyvania for a doubleheader with the Spartans at 1 p.m.
