Women's basketball bested by Messiah in defensive bout

FREDERICK, Md. – A prominent defensive stand from Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth foe Messiah University became too much to handle for the Hood College women's basketball team, as the Blazers fell 49-25.

Inside the Box Score
Chanelle Lee (Brunswick, Md./Saint John's Catholic Prep) led the Blazers with six points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Na'Vaye Quarles (Glen Burnie, Md./North County) finished with six points and three rebounds.

Sami Betley (Bel Air, Md./Mercy) had four points and six rebounds on the day.

How it Happened
To begin the match Messiah went on a 5-1 run after their scoring was broken up following a made free throw by Manning. Prior to the second quarter beginning the Falcons led 13-5.

The second quarter began with strong defensive stands from both teams until Lee made a layup to put a stop to the scoring drought. In the last two minute of the half Quarles made two jump shots to bring the Blazers within four points. The half concluded with a score of 17-13.

In the third quarter Messiah's defense stifled the Blazers, yet Betley was able to get on the board with a jumper the paint. Closing out this quarter Lee managed to make a layup off a fast break play in the last 10 seconds before the fourth quarter. At the end of this quarter the Falcons led 37-17.

Going into the final quarter of play both teams traded baskets; however, Messiahs lead would be too big of a feat for the Blazers as the match concluded with a score of 49-25.

For the Opponent
Morgan Adams led Messiah in scoring with 20 points and one assist.

Chloe Milanesi had 12 points and four assists on the day.

Analysis
The Falcons shot 40 percent from the field, while the Blazers had made 26.8 percent of their shots.

Messiah outrebounded Hood 37-30.

Notes
When asked about his thoughts the game Head Coach DéRonté Polite said, "We showed up defensively, I love our defensive effort. We are still struggling to score and I have to find a way to get us going offensively."

Hood falls to 3-15 (2-6), while Messiah improves to 16-3 (8-0).
