OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Hood College field hockey team was unable to spoil the conference home opener for Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opponent No. 8 Stevenson, as the Blazers took a 3-1 loss on the road.
Inside the Box Score
Morgan Hackett (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) scored Hood's lone goal, with
Madeline Moreno (Mansfield, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) and
Bella Butler (Hamilton, Va./Loudoun Valley) assisting.
Richana Brown (Dover, Del./Dover) made eight saves in net.
How it Happened
Neither team could find a groove to start the game, as both sides only managed to get one shot each during the first 15 minutes.
Things picked up in the second half as both offenses had great chances, but a penalty shot from Stevenson would be converted for the only goal of the first half, as Hood headed into halftime down 1-0.
The Mustangs seemed to figure things out during the break, as they came out swinging to put the Blazers on their heels once again, eventually managing to get another one past Brown to double their lead.
Unfortunately for Hood, an early goal for Stevenson in the fourth quarter put the game even further out of reach, and despite a beautiful penalty corner display from Butler, Moreno, and Hackett to get the Blazers on the board, it would not be enough to come back before the horn finalized the 3-1 loss.
Analysis
Stevenson outshot Hood 20-8.
The Mustangs had 13 penalty corners compared to just five for the Blazers.
For the Opponent
Shae Bennett, Hailey Mertz, and Lauren Schulz each scored a goal.
Jordan Vradenbaugh made three saves on the night.
Notes
The loss knocks Hood down to 7-6 (0-2), while Stevenson improves to 11-2 (2-0).
