FREDERICK, Md. – Field Hockey wins back-to-back conference games since 2004 as
Madeline Moreno (Mansfield, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) highlights with a save to keep the Blazers ahead and a goal in the second half to push the Blazers past the Lions 2-1.
Inside the Box Score
Madeline Moreno (Mansfield, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) had a goal and two defensive saves along with her five shots on goal.
Bianca Scally (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks) had the other Blazers' goal on two shots.
Richana Brown (Dover, Del./Dover) made five saves.
How it Happened
Early in the match, Albright was taking charge through the midfield and taking footsteps within Blazer territory but defenders Scally and
Natalie Badour (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) stopped all momentum.
Penalty corners would bring trouble for the Lions as the Blazers would get good tries inside the arch but the Albright keeper kept the match scoreless for now.
Scally throughout the first quarter would take possession and outpace the entire field heading towards the Albright goalie. This time she would find space to shoot a laser that would deflect off a defender and find daylight in the back of the goal for the Blazer 1-0 lead.
The second quarter started with a penalty corner for the Lions and multiple shots on goal with Brown and Moreno making saves to preserve the Blazer lead.
The Blazers' first penalty corner of the second half was delivered by Massey to an open Moreno who put a bullet past everyone and padded the Blazer lead to two.
The duo of Brown and Moreno returned as Brown made a save three minutes into the third but the rebound went back to the Albright attacker who took another shot but Moreno on the run stuck out the back of her stick to deflect the ball out of play and out of the goal for the save.
Later, a crowded arc caused mayhem and knocked over the keeper as Hood committed an obstruction to create a penalty shot for Albright. Olivia Lorah of Albright took the penalty and found the top left to cut the lead to 2-1.
Albright was piling on the penalty corners and forcing some holes in the Blue & Grey's defense but timely saves by Brown that also cleared the ball kept the game safe.
For the Opponent
Olivia Lorah scored the Albright only goal along with her six shots.
