How it Happened
Widener looked to push the pace early, taking three shots within the first five minutes. Ellenberger managed to save all of them. The physicality of the match picked up as time went on and resulted in 14 fouls being called.
Hood settled in and it was evident on the offensive end. Sara Yeich (Middletown, PA/Middletown Area) found the back of the net with her shot at 40'Â but an offsides call cut the celebration short.
The Blazers stayed on the attack and took the lead heading into the break. A Pride defender's ball deflected off Kiley O'Grady (Frederick, Md/Oakdale). Escobar got to it first and scored the Blazers' goal at 38' to go up 1-0. It was her second goal in just as many games.
Hood carried the momentum into the second half and really tested the Pride's defense. Their aggression earned them a free kick just outside the box at 71'. A well-placed ball and good positioning led to Przybocki's first goal of the season, putting the Blazers up 2-0. McKenna Bishop (Johnson City, Tenn./Mount Hebron (Md.)) and Escobar were awarded with assists.
In the end, it was Nair who put the exclamation point on a solid team-effort. She scored at 85' and the crowd erupted. In the 89', when time was about to expire, Nair found the back of the net again to push the lead to 4-0 and close the door on any comeback hopes for Widener. O'Guin and O'Grady each got an assist from her goals.
