MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – The Hood College women's volleyball team were outmatched by Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opponent Messiah, as the Blazers were swept in straight sets on the road.
Set Scores
The Falcons won 25-14, 25-7, 25-13.
Inside the Box Score
Sami Betley (Bel Air, Md./Mercy) ended the night with seven kills.
Ainslee Barger (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) led the team with eight assists.
Molly McGraw (Forest Hill, Md./Concordia Prep) finished the match with nine digs.
How it Happened
Despite Messiah starting the match off hot with a 6-2 advantage, Hood quickly fought back to tie the first set at 10 early on. Unfortunately, an 8-0 run from the Falcons stunned the visiting Blazers, with the home team eventually closing the set out and taking a 1-0 match lead.
The second set was doomed from the start for Hood, as Messiah put Hood in an 11-0 hole off the bat and did not look back, as the Blazers were unable to put together enough sustained offense to threaten before falling behind 2-0 in the match.
Needing to get something going to force a fourth set, Hood started off on the right foot with back-to-back kills from Betley helping boost the Blazers to a 4-3 lead. That would be the last lead they would have in the match, though, as eight straight points from Messiah put them in a deficit they could not come back from, making it a 24-13 affair before closing the door and sending Hood home unhappy.
For the Opponent
Makenzie Adams collected 11 kills.
Emma Swartz totaled 16 assists.
Notes
The Blazers drop to 8-17 (1-5), with the Falcons improving to 18-7 (6-0).
