Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Matthew Gelhard, Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications

Men’s Volleyball leave the Blue Jays nest with a loss

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Hood College men's volleyball team falls to 4-5 as they were swept in three sets on the road against Elizabethtown College. 

 

Set Scores  

  • Elizabethtown won in straight sets, 25-14, 25-10, and 25-9.  

Inside the Box Score   

  • Charles Casas (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen High School) led the Blazers with 6 kills. 

  • Cameron Nugent (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) had 14 assists with 3 digs on the day. 

  • Sean Seely (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage High School) had 5 kills and 3 digs. 

How it Happened 

The first set started with the Blue Jays and Blazers exchanging points thanks to kills from Seely and Jaden Wilkins (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) to bring the score 9-8 in favor of Elizabethtown. 

However, Nick Chapman of the Blue Jays had the hot hand on the service and started the 16-5 run to end the set 25-14 in favor of Etown.  

The second set included 4 kills from Casas and taking advantage of errors from the opposing Blue Jays. Nate Seeger took over the second set by providing Alex Finch hard hits leading to Blazer errors and a 2-0 lead. 

Hood found themselves down 9-1 to start the third set but had service errors to prevent being put away. Although the Blue Jays weren't letting the Blazers stop their momentum late and scored six straight points to extend their lead to 23-6 and eventually getting to the 25-9 final. 

For the Opponent  

  • Nick Chapman led the Blue Jays with 15 kills along with 6 service aces. 

  • Alex Finch had 8 kills and matched defensively with 8 digs.

The Blazers travel to Dallas, PA for a tri-match to face host Misericordia and visitor Mount Aloysius College on Saturday, February 17, at 12 and 2 p.m..
