ASHLAND, Va. - The Hood College women's lacrosse team dropped its season-opening non-conference match-up to Randolph-Macon College 11-6.
Inside the Box Score
- Abby Burnette (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) led the Blazers with two goals.
- Olivia Pickett (Mount Airy, Md/Linganore High School) scored two goals also and caused three turnovers.
- Mackenzie Demaio (Urbana, Md./Coronado (Calif.)) had one goal, two assists, one caused turnover, and three groundballs.

How it Happened
- Hood started the game off to a promising start winning the opening draw followed up by a goal by Demaio. Randolph-Macon responded with a goal of its own tying the score until Burnette scored another goal for the Blazers giving them the lead once again. A minute and a half later Burnette scored again off an assist by Demaio. At 6:34 the Yellow Jackets scored for a second time off a goal by McNeally trailing the Blazers by just one. Then with less than two minutes left in the first quarter Mackenzi Wright scored a goal for Hood giving the Blazers a two-point lead going into the second.
- Randolph-Macon would take control of the second quarter managing to put together an effective offense earning four goals. Hood's offensive efforts would make for the Blazers to have six shots on the quarter just one more than the Yellow Jackets' 5 shots, however closing out the quarter Randolph-Macon gained the lead with a score of 6-4 going into halftime.
- The Yellow Jackets scoring run would carry on into the third quarter as they scored two more goals in the first five minutes. The Blazers cut the scoring deficit to just three points after Pickett scored a goal of her own on an extra-man opportunity. Closing out the scoring for the third quarter the Blazers trailed the Yellow Jackets with a score of 8-5 going into the fourth.
- In the final quarter of play Randolph-Macon notched a goal early in the quarter but just two minutes later another score from Pickett brought Hood within three points. With just five minutes to go until the end of regulation, the Yellow Jackets scored back-to-back goals giving themselves a five-point cushion. After the last buzzer, the scoreboard read 11-6 in favor of Randolph-Macon.
