FREDERICK, Md. – A hot start for the Hood College women's lacrosse team could not be sustained the rest of the game against Clarkson University, as the Blazers fell 18-13 in non-conference action.
Inside the Box Score
Mackenzie Demaio (Urbana, Md./Coronado (Calif.)) led the team in every category, finishing the day with four goals, two assists, five ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

How it Happened
It took less than two minutes for the first goal to be scored, as the Golden Knights got one past
Brooke Harper (Sykesville, Md./Century) on their first shot on goal. The Blazers would not wait too long to answer however, tying the game a minute and a half later before taking their first lead 30 seconds after that. This outburst marked the beginning of an 11-goal quarter, as neither team seemed to miss their mark, and Hood coming out of the first 15 minutes with a 6-5 advantage.
Clarkson found an answer in the second quarter, scoring five straight goals to jump out to a 10-6 lead before
Kayla Russell (Elkton, Md./Northeast) and
Olivia Pickett (Mount Airy, Md/Linganore High School) took advantage of some man-up opportunities to bring the Blazers to just a 10-8 disadvantage heading into halftime.
The Golden Knights again wasted little time coming out into the third, getting a shot into the back of the net just 29 seconds in. Although
Savannah Winpigler (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) answered that with a tally of her own eight minutes later, Clarkson netted five goals in the final 5:09 of the quarter to put Hood in a 16-9 hole on the way to the final frame.
Despite the Blazers outscoring the Golden Knights 4-2 in the fourth quarter, the deficit was too much to overcome, as the horn sounded with an 18-13 score in favor of the visitors.

Madelynn Barnum led Clarkson with six goals, adding an assist, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers.
Julia Lavarnway closed the day out with two goals, seven assists, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers.
