GETTYSBURG, Pa. – A five-inning lead slipped away from the Hood College baseball team in the blink of an eye, as Gettysburg College came back to defeat Blazers 11-7 in a midweek matchup.
At the Plate
Stephen Sommer (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun) finished the day batting 3-5 with an RBI.
Keegan Brennan (Lake Wynonah, Pa./Nativity BVM) went 2-5 in the game but managed to steal three bases.
Jacob Saylor (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) hit a home run to finish the afternoon with three RBI's.
On the Mound
Skylar Albright (Hendersonville, N.C./) got the start for the Blazers, allowing just two hits through two innings pitched.
Joe Monteleone (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) made his first appearance of the season, allowing two runs off two hits but striking out three batters.
How it Happened
Hood got things started quickly, as a three-run blast from Saylor looked to set the tone, a tone that continued into the second when
Remi Schaber (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne Collegiate School) was driven in by a Sommer knock up the middle of the field.
Gettysburg would not wait too long to respond though, as a double steal in the bottom of the third put runners in scoring position, where the Bullets would capitalize on the lack of outs to drive both home and cut the lead to 4-2.
Another run would score for the Blazers in the top of the fourth when they took advantage of a throwing error, but that would be it for the offense for a few innings, during which time Gettysburg's bats got hot, driving in nine runs over the next three innings.
Although Hood managed to get a run in the eighth and make it to the top of the ninth with no further damage, they could only muster up one more run before getting their third to end the game 11-7 in favor of the home team.
For the Opponent
David Preziuso finished 3-4 at the plate, scoring four times, driving in a run, and stealing four bases.
Brett Townsley earned the win for the Bullets, allowing zero hits and striking out three batters through two innings pitched.
