FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College baseball celebrated their seven seniors and split the day with a 4-1 loss in game one and a walk-off single in extra innings by Cameron Day (Hagerstown, Md./Clear Spring) in game two win 3-2.
On the Mound
-
Dutch DeProspero (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) started game one going four shutout-innings allowing only three hits and one walk.
-
Joe Monteleone (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) pitched a third of an inning, striking out the last batter in the fourth inning jam.
-
Joe Alexander (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County), the starter for game two, allowed seven hits on two runs and struck out seven.
-
Tyler Cooney (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) got the win in game two pitching three innings allowing four hits and no runs.
At the Plate
-
Alex Jenkins (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) went 2-for-3 with a double and scored the only run in game one.
-
Amrit Brown (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) went 2-for-3 in game two with two RBIs.
-
Matthew Stout (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) went 2-for-3, drew a walk and scored a run in game two.
-
Keegan Brennan (Lake Wynonah, Pa./Nativity BVM) had a pair of hits in game two.
Widener 4, Hood 1
-
Widener had a runner take two bases on a passed ball to put the Pride 90 feet away from the game's first run. The next batter lifted a ball to left-centerfield only to be met with a diving Keegan Brennan (Lake Wynonah, Pa./Nativity BVM) to make the catch and end the threat.
-
The Blazers would feed off the great defensive play by putting two runners in scoring position via a Day single and Saylor reached on error. But with one out, runners were left stranded and the game remained 0-0.
-
The fifth would bring a runner on second for Widener as a soft base hit would bring that runner around third to potentially score. However, a strong throw from Day playing right field would beat the runner home and the tag by Saylor at the plate would stop the score.
-
Widener would keep the pressure on loading the bases and scoring the first run of the game by walking the runner at the plate. Monteleone would get the next batter to swing and miss to end the inning but not before the 1-0 was taken.
-
Again, the Pride would strike again with a two-run single extending the lead to 3-0.
-
Jenkins in the bottom half of the seventh would rip a double down the first base line and would later score on a balk.
Hood 3, Widener 2 (10 innings)
-
With two outs in the second inning, the Blazers produced back-to-back singles by Stout and Stephen Sommer (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun). Brown then snuck a base-hit through the right-side of the infield and cleared the bases giving the Blazers a 2-0 lead.
-
Widener spent the first four innings hitless with Alexander on the mound striking out four of his six batters on the day. But a double in the fifth inning and an RBI single quickly ended the scoreless and the no-hit bid and the Pride cut the lead to 2-1.
-
The next at-bat for the visitors ended up in another run after a base hit would score one before the relay would cut down a second runner trying to score but the game would be tied 2-2.
-
Cooney would enter in the eighth inning and the bases would load up with no outs. Cooney would then retire the side via strikeout, groundout, and a lineout to a speedy Tyler Schwarzman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) to end Widener's last threat.
-
Fast-forward three innings of scoreless baseball to the bottom of the tenth inning. Hood's Brennan would hit a line drive off the pitcher and his throw would sail into right field putting Brennan in scoring position.
-
Cameron Day (Hagerstown, Md./Clear Spring) pushed a ball to the left side of the infield and as the throw went to first, Brennan kept the wheels moving and rounded third. Day beat the throw to first and then throw home was not in time to catch Brennan for the Blazers to walk it off in extras.

- Sean Curran pitched a complete game in game one and got the win allowing only one hit and one earned run.
