Softball outgunned by Gettysburg

FREDERICK, Md. – The Hood College softball team could not keep up with the Gettysburg College offense, getting swept in the day's doubleheader 5-0 in game one and 8-1 in game two.

At the Plate
Chloe Saunders (Middletown, Md./Middletown) went 1-3 with a walk in game two.

Inside the Circle
Rebecca Gottlieb gave up one earned run in game one.

Gettysburg 5, Hood 0
The Bullets scored all of their runs in the first inning, taking advantage of fielding errors from the Blazers' going all the way through the order, with their leadoff hitter grounding out to end the inning.

Gettysburg's starting pitcher had a perfect game through the first five 1/3 innings, but a single from Kaelyn Blocher (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) ended both the perfect game and no-hit bid simultaneously.

No one else would get on base for Hood, however, and the game would end 5-0.

Gettysburg 8, Hood 1
It took an inning for Gettysburg to get on the board, but back-to-back hits in the second inning would put them ahead 2-0.

Although the Blazers had the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth with Hannah Cohen (North Wales, Pa./North Penn High School) leading the charge by getting on base after a dropped third strike, a smack from Blocher hung in the air long enough for the left fielder to make the catch and get the Bullets out of the inning.

After putting up three more runs in the top of the fifth, Hood managed to draw blood in the bottom of the frame when a Gottlieb single allowed Saunders to score from second base.

Gettysburg got the run back in the next inning, but was unable to add any more before getting their third out.

The final three half-innings went by without any more scoring, giving the Bullets the sweep over the Blazers.

For the Opponent
Carlie Goldstein batted 4-6 with an RBI across both games.

Paige Forry allowed just one hit through 6.1 innings, striking out five.

Up Next
The Blazers travel to Kissimmee, Florida first for spring break, playing SUNY Cortland and Hamilton College at 4:15 and 6:15 p.m.
