SALISBURY, Md. - Hood College's baseball team had difficulty managing the high-powered offense of the No. 4 Salisbury Gulls and fell with a score of 15-1.
On the Mound
-
Colby Childs (Berryville, Va./Clarke County) was given the loss on the day after pitching the first two innings.
-
Finn Scott-Daniels (Annandale, Va./Annandale) pitched two innings in relief allowing one earned run and struck out three.
-
Remi Schaber (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne Collegiate School) finished the eighth inning clean while putting away two batters via strikeout.
At the Plate
-
Matthew Stout (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) went 1-for-3 and scored Hood's sole run.
-
Stephen Sommer (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun) went 1-for-4 with one of three of Hood's hits on the day.
Salisbury 15, Hood 1
-
The Gulls set the tone for the game when leadoff hitter Andrew Kell put a ball over the right field fence to lead 1-0. Childs prevented the big inning by retiring three of the next four batters.
-
The next chance to hit for Salisbury brought more trouble for the Blazers quick as a hit, walk, and a hit by pitch loaded the bases. This brought up Kell once again and he sent a ball out of the yard yet again for a grand slam extending the lead now 6-0.
-
The Gulls would score in five of the next six innings to put the game out of reach.
-
Small ball in the eighth inning would prevent Hood from being shutout. After a Stout single, Amrit Brown (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) moved Stout into scoring position via bunt before a fielding error committed by the opposing shortstop scored Stout.
For the Opponent
-
Aiden Brinsfield improved to 3-0, pitched seven shutout innings allowing only two hits.
-
Leadoff hitter Andrew Kell went 3-for-3 on the day including two homers, a double, six RBIs and two walks.
