ARLINGTON, Va. – A rocky start against non-conference foe Marymount doomed the Hood College baseball team, as the Blazers fell 11-4 on the road in a midweek matchup.
On the Mound
Frank Spaide (Bensalem, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) replaced
Justin Medeiros (Douglas, Ma./Pomfret School) in the second inning, not allowing any hits through his 3.2 IP while striking out two batters.
At the Plate
Jack Patterson (Boyds, Md./Northwest) finished the day 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
Stephen Sommer (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun) batted 2-5 with an RBI and a double of his own.
How it Happened
Marymount got the scoring started early, driving in a pair of runs in the first and three more in the second to jump out to a quick 5-0 lead.
Hood seemed to find their footing with scores in the third and fourth innings to cut their deficit to just 5-2, but the Saints poured on the offense in the seventh, batting around and plating six runners to blow the game open with an 11-2 advantage.
The Blazers managed to get two more runners to touch all four bases in the top of the ninth, but the deficit was too much to come back from, finishing with an 11-4 loss and three runners left on base after grounding into a double play.
For the Opponent
Bobby Leitzel went 2-3 at the plate, accumulating three RBIs and two walks while scoring thrice himself.
