FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's baseball team walks away with a series sweep against conference opponent York with highlights from the mound and the plate with scores of 3-2 and 11-6.
On the Mound
-
Joe Alexander (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) pitched a complete game in the first game, striking out seven and allowing only two runs to earn the win.
-
Dutch DeProspero (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) would get the nod in the second game pitching the first four innings only allowing four hits on one run.
-
Frank Spaide (Bensalem, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic), the winner of the second game, pitched the next four and allowed two hits on two runs while striking out three.
At the Plate
-
Richard Kershow (Eatons Neck, N.Y./Northport) had two RBIs in game one with a homer and an RBI sacrifice fly.
-
Stephen Sommer (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun) went 4-for-6 in game two with a grand slam.
-
Jacob Saylor (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) went 2-for-5 in game two with three runs scored.
-
Sebastian Paz (Miami, Fla./Immaculata-La Salle) collected three hits and scored twice in game two.
Hood 3, York (Pa.) 2
-
Brennan took flight in the first at-bat in the game and homered to left center to give the Blazers the lead.
-
Moving into the third inning, Richard Kershow (Eatons Neck, N.Y./Northport) belted a homer to right field to put Hood 2-0 over a York team that was putting runners on base but not cashing in.
-
It took until the bottom of the third for York to cut the deficit in half as DeWees was hit by a pitch and moved over to second before returning home via a base hit to right field.
-
Bases were juiced in the fourth inning for the Blazers but almost had their opportunity spoiled. Kershow put a liner into left field good enough for Jenkins from third base.
-
Alexander went back out to the mound in the last inning, striking out the first batter looking and now two outs were in between the Blazers and winning the series.
-
Two back-to-back hits scored a run and put the tying run on second base. Poised, Alexander got the final York batter to swing-and-miss to end the game.
Hood 11, York (Pa.) 6
-
After a York homer in the first, the Blazers got busy in the second inning scoring six runs.
-
Jenkins singled to lead the inning off and moved to third on two groundouts. Stout singled to score Jenkins and the bases loaded with rinse and repeat of Sebastian Paz (Miami, Fla./Immaculata-La Salle) and Brennan singles.
-
Speaking of rinse and repeat, Stephan Sommer cleaned the bases with a towering grand slam to right field to extend the score to 5-1.
-
Saylor reached on an error in the top of the fourth inning but got his cardio in as he travelled from first base to home on a Day triple in the gap. Saylor would be a usual suspect in the sixth inning when he homered to center to tack on another run. One more time, a single would drive in Paz who made frequent trips to the basepaths.
