Baseball dodges a Gettysburg Bullet

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's baseball team fed off a quality start from freshman pitcher Harrison Ludington (Woodbridge, Va/Forest Park High School) and escaped a late-inning ambush by Gettysburg to achieve their 20th win of the season with a score of 4-3.

On the Mound

  • Harrison Ludington (Woodbridge, Va/Forest Park High School) got the nod and earned the win as he allowed four hits and one earned run in six innings of work.

  • Finn Scott-Daniels (Annandale, Va./Annandale) pitched a clean two innings while striking out two.

  • Mason Sawyers (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County) got the save in relief in the seventh inning keeping the Bullets in check.

At the Plate

  • Sebastian Paz (Miami, Fla./Immaculata-La Salle) went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

  • Jacob Saylor (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) went 1-for-2 driving in a run and drawing a walk.

Hood 4, Gettysburg 3

  • The fourth inning started with a pair of one out singles by Cameron Day (Hagerstown, Md./Clear Spring) and Matthew Stout (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) to put Amrit Brown (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) in the box. Brown ripped a single of his own past the second baseman and right fielder to score both Stout and Day.. Paz's groundout in the inning later scored Brown from third to put the Blazers up 3-0.

  • Austin Rhue (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) checked in on the bases after reaching via error in the fifth, a pickoff attempt went into right field which allowed Rhue to scamper over to third. Saylor singled to a popular right side of the field to score Rhue and up the score 4-0.

  • The ninth inning is where Gettysburg tried to sneak away with the win over the Blazers. A leadoff single followed by a walk provided the most traffic on the basepaths for Gettysburg since the fourth inning.

  • The Bullets' Stellato doubled into the left field corner scoring one and another walk would jam the bases. Mason Sawyers (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County) entered the game and got the next batter to ground into a double play with the runner out at home and first base. An infield single scored another run and brought the lead to only one. Sawyers was able to get the final batter of the game out via flyout to earn the save and preserve the win.

For the Opponent

  • William Stellato hit two doubles on the day and drove in a run.

  • Ryan Wootten earned the loss but only allowed four hits and one earned run.

Notes

  • Hood improves to 20-14, their fourth 20+ win season in program history.

  • Gettysburg drops to 16-20.
