Women’s basketball overrun by Spartans

FREDERICK, Md. – The Hood College women's basketball team could not keep pace against Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opponent York College (Pa.), as the Blazers fell 82-58.

Inside the Box Score
Tiffany Manning (Randallstown, Md./Western Tech) finished with a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double, shooting 60 percent from the field.

Aliyah Taylor (Randallstown, Md./Pikesville High School) ended the afternoon with 11 points.

Maya Gordon (Towson, Md./Loch Raven High School) led the team with four assists, tacking on seven points and six rebounds,

How it Happened
Although Hood made the first basket of the game via a layup from Taylor, York came right back down the court and drained a three-pointer to kick off a back-and-forth first quarter. The Blazers turned a four-point deficit into a three-point lead after a quick 7-0 run, but after the Spartans threatened to tie things a minute before the quarter ended, Serenity Ritchie (Martinsburg, W.V./Martinsburg High School) made a quick layup and then forced a turnover to get the ball to Manning who sunk a mid-range jumper at the buzzer to put Hood ahead 17-12 after 10 minutes.

Both squads exchanged shots for most of the second quarter, but an 8-0 run from York gave the Spartans the lead with just under two minutes in the half. It looked like the Blazers would go into the half down four, but a steal and score by Chanelle Lee (Brunswick, Md./Saint John's Catholic Prep) right before the horn sounded gave Hood some life heading into halftime down just 32-30.

The two sides exchanged runs again coming out for the second half, but York began putting more pressure on the Blazers by consistently making three-pointers, taking a double-digit lead with just over 2:30 to play. The Spartans then made three straight three-pointers in the final 1:38 to balloon their lead to 58-42 at the end of the third quarter.

Hood could not get enough momentum as the fourth quarter started going, making shots on their end but could not consistently prevent York from scoring at their end, as the Spartans continued to drain deep shots to expand the Blazers' deficit all the way up to the final buzzer sounded with the scoreboard reading 82-58 in favor of York.

For the Opponent
Alyssa Hocker led the Spartans with 18 points and eight rebounds.

Morgan Adams scored 14 points, also finishing with eight rebounds.

Analysis
York shot 42 percent from the field and 39 percent from deep, compared to just 39 percent from the field and nine percent from three-point range for Hood.

The Blazers outrebounded the Spartans 46-42.

Hood turned the ball over 18 times, with York keeping their turnovers to just eight.

Notes
The Blazers fall to 5-12 (1-5), while the Spartans improve to 10-7 (3-3).
