Women’s volleyball poaches Golden Wolves

FREDERICK, Md. – The Hood College women's volleyball team kept its playoff hopes alive with a dominating win over Alvernia University, sweeping the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opponent 3-0.

Set Scores
The Blazers won 25-18, 25-21, 25-14.

Inside the Box Score
Ann Ofoegbu (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) led Hood with 13 kills and 11 digs.

Maria Ricketts (Adamstown, Md./New Life Christian) had 32 assists for the most on the team.

Alyssa Marshall (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) served up five aces.

How it Happened
Ofoegbu started things off with an ace and helped Hood take an early 5-2 lead. The Golden Wolves fought back to make it an 7-6 advantage for the Blazers, but Ofoegbu and Cam Madden (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) helped lead the team to five straight points and break away.
Alvernia got within four points at 20-16, but that would be the closest it would get before Hood finished things off and took a 1-0 match lead.

The Golden Wolves looked like they would be able to tie the match up after erasing an early four-point deficit and putting the Blazers in a 9-7 hole, but Hood recovered quickly and used a 7-2 run right after to jump into the lead. Alvernia tied the set with three points in a row, but after exchanging points for a bit, four straight for the Blazers gave them a 22-17 lead they would not relinquish for a 2-0 advantage.

Another Ofoegbu ace to kick off set three set the tone for the rest of the match. The Golden Wolves scored three straight to cut Hood's lead to 4-3, but a 6-0 run from the Blazers almost put them ahead by double digits before eight straight points moments later iced things with a 19-6 lead. It was not much longer before Hood got its 25th point and completed the sweep, creating a win-and-in scenario against Widener in the final match of the regular season.

For the Opponent
Allison Wolf finished with eight kills.

Caroline Buggy ended the evening with 11 digs.

Hailey McDevitt had 11 assists.

Notes
The Blazers improve to 7-18 (3-3), while the Golden Wolves fall to 7-15 (0-6).
