BRIDGEWATER, Pa. – An early first period lead could not be sustained by the Hood College women's lacrosse team, as the Blazers fell 12-6 to Bridgewater College.
Inside the Box Score
Julia Gregory (Sussex, N.J./Vernon Twp.) and
Abby Burnette (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) both scored two goals for Hood.
Abbey Bolingbroke (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) picked up six ground balls and caused five turnovers.
Alivia Hosterman (Danville, Pa./Danville) made four saves in the loss.
How it Happened
The Blazers started the frigid match hot, taking advantage of an early penalty on the Eagles as
Avery Stanley (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) netted the game's first goal less than two minutes in.
Things would slow down for some time, but after Gregory netted her first of the day with less than five minutes in the quarter, Bridgewater would kick it up a notch, scoring three goals in the final four minutes, taking the lead with 17 seconds left.
A quick two-minute break in between quarters was not enough to cool the Eagles off though, as they would score the next three goals, including two in the first 2:22, to put the Blazers in a 6-2 hole before Burnette was able to cut off their run and get Hood back on the board as it headed into halftime down 6-3.
After both teams had their first possession of the second half, Bridgewater would get the first goal of the quarter, adding another less than two minutes later to push its lead further, with Burnette getting one back for Hood with just under six minutes to play
as the Blazers trailed by four entering the fourth quarter.
Unfortunately for Hood, there was no break in Bridgewater's scoring plan, as the Eagles scored the first four goals of the quarter to essentially ice the game, with the Blazers adding two goals to their total in the final two minutes to make it a 12-6 final score.
For the Opponent
Jenna Entsminger led Bridgewater with six goals.
Rachael Robinson made nine saves.
