How it Happened
- Hood had a fast start, setting up for a four-point scoring run this quarter. After the first five minutes of the game Harper got the ball rolling for the Blazers scoring the first of many. Just two minutes later Burnette joined in on the fun. Then Katy Przybocki (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) wasted no time to get a goal of her own as she scored just seconds after a won draw control by Gregory. The first scoring run for the Blazers was capped off by Gregory's first goal of the game as she took advantage of a man-up free position shot. Although the first ten minutes was all Hood, Eastern Mennonite struck back with two back-to-back goals to get within two goals of the Blazers. This Royal outburst would not stop the Blazers, though as Hood responded with three more goals to gain a five-point lead before the second quarter. With twenty-two seconds left in the first quarter first-year Emma Massey (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) scored her first career goal off an assist by Burnette. The scoreboard read 7-2 in favor of Hood at the end of the first quarter.
- The Blazers' scoring frenzy continued as Hood added another three goals to the board courtesy of Harper, Stanley, and Gregory. Eastern Mennonite's Shayleigh Sims eventually found the back of the net five minutes into the second quarter to cut Hood's lead down to seven. Before the halftime buzzer Hood added on four goals to make it 14-3 thanks to Brooks, Harper, and two goals by Burnette.
- In the second half Hood did not let go of the reigns and knocked back two more goals solidifying a comfortable lead over the Royals. With two minutes and thirty-two seconds left in the third quarter Eastern Mennonite took a strike at Hood's goalie and scored; however, this game was out of reach as Hood quadrupled Eastern Mennonite's score at the end of third quarter 16-4.
- In the fourth and final quarter of play both teams went back and forth at each other in the scoring column. The quarter began with a goal by Brooks just three minutes in. Not long after the Hood goal the Royals responded with a won draw control followed by a goal by Ava Walker. The Blazers couldn't take their foot off the gas as Bolingbroke scored her second goal of the day with eight minutes and ten seconds left in regulation off an assist from Alanna Lee (Alexandria, Va./Mount Vernon). Megan Welker then found herself on the scoresheet as she found the back of the net after returning a ricochet shot giving the Blazers a 19-5 lead. With two minutes left Eastern Mennonite's Courtney Crawford scored her second goal of the day, but it was too late. As the final horn sounded Hood remained victorious with a score of 19-6.
