ABURDEEN, Md. – The squad took their talents to the Ripken Experience and with good weather and the ball moving fast on the turf, Hood lost the slugfest against host King's 15-10 on Wednesday afternoon.
In the Batter's Box
Amrit Brown's (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) opportunity turned into a 3-for-4 day with four RBIs and three runs scored.
Rhett Robbins (Frederica, Del./Lake Forest) drove in a pair of runs on his two-hit day.
Quade Gannon (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) drew two walks and earned an RBI on the afternoon.
On the Mound
Tim Rio (Manassas, Va./Unity Reed) pitched five innings of one earned run baseball allowing four hits while striking out five.
From the Bullpen
Mason Sawyers (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County) in his 1 2/3 innings of work allowed one hit and one earned run.
How it Happened
A base hit and a pair of free passes to first brought up Brown to hit the ball hard to centerfield and clear the bases to put the Blazers up 3-0 with only one out in the inning. Brown would later score on a groundout by Robbins to put Hood now up by four.
Rio put up a clean two first innings, ending the bottom of the second with a pair of outs the way of the K. A leadoff walk in the following at-bat for King's followed by single and a misplayed bunt left the bases loaded. Rio would strike out the next batter but a single to left field would score two before the second out of the inning would be Gannon's toss to cut a runner down at third base. Another King's hit would put the score at 4-3.
It wouldn't be until the fifth inning until Hood would cross at the plate their fifth run of the day via a bases loaded walk. The sixth inning would make the play-by-play endless with five runs scoring for each squad.
AJ Haines (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) would double to leadoff and Brennan would reach base yet again before a base hit by Broughton would score the inning's first run. A variety pack of sac fly, infield bunt base hit and error would suffice for now the Blazers 10-3 lead.
Walks would hurt Hood starting the inning with one out and three runners via the free pass. The line kept moving and as the Monarchs racked up singles, they matched the Blazers crooked number.
The seventh inning would be the last hoorah for the Blazers with Brown reaching via a leadoff double, but even with a pair of walks in the inning, they were all stranded. A pair of walks acted as a sword for King's and the bleeding continued with a couple hits before a three-run homer to center put the Monarchs up 15-10 and for the final.
Analysis
The Blazers strand 12 men on base compared to the Monarch's four.
Hood had four extra base hits on the day.
For the Opponent
Kevin Kullman launched a homer and had three RBIs on the day.
Zach Day reached base three times and scored all three times.
