OWINGS MILLS, Md. –
Skylar Albright (Hendersonville, N.C./Hendersonville) throws seven innings of one run ball to take game one of baseball's opening conference series against Stevenson 5-1 on Friday afternoon.
In the Batter's Box
AJ Haines (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) went 3-for-4 including another homer with a pair of runs and RBIs.
Ty Broughton (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) had two hits and scored.
Harrison Ludington (Woodbridge, Va/Forest Park High School) earned 2 RBIs on the day in his five at-bats.
On the Mound
Albright tossed over 100 pitches and struck out five in the win.
From the Bullpen
Mason Salisbury (Colora, Md./Perryville) tossed two clean innings in relief and had 4 strikeouts in the save.
How it Happened
The Blazers had a pair of singles in the top of the first to put runners at the corners but they were left stranded.
Albright commanded the first three innings allowing one hit and striking out two batters via the swing-and-miss method.
The top half of the third featured Haines' leadoff single and reaching second on a wild pitch before Broughton had a poke through the infield scoring the game's first run. A failed pickoff would move Broughton to third and a two-out single by Ludington would put Hood up by a pair.
Stevenson would respond in the fourth inning with a hard hit ball to short to get a baserunner aboard and then an error would move the Mustang's Reinhart to second. A pair of well executed sacrifices would score Reinhart as the only run for the hosts.
With a sprinkle of hits in the bottom half of innings, Albright would cruise through seven without trouble but only holding on to a one-run lead.
The eighth's commotion would start with two outs as
Jack Patterson's (Boyds, Md./Northwest) swing would find grass in centerfield. Haines would send his third homer of the season into left center and add the insurance needed to put the game away.
Salisbury would get the call from the bullpen to handle the final two innings and even when runners would make it to base in both innings, the Mustangs were left with no dice.
For the Opponent
Stevenson's Palmeiri had two hits on the day.
Notes
Hood improves to 4-10, 1-0 in conference play.
Stevenson drops to 3-8, 0-1 in conference play.
